I grew up outside New Haven, Connecticut. When I was ten I mischievously took a photograph of my grandparents kissing at their anniversary party. I’m pretty sure it was my first purposeful photograph - and I’ve never stopped. In high school I was the captain of the swim team and an OK student, but mostly I was known as the kid who liked taking pictures.

After graduating from the George Washington University I worked for United Press International in Washington, DC covering the White House, Capitol Hill, music and general news. Assignments of notice were the Pentagon on 9/11, the Iraq war, the first Bonnaroo music festival, the US Open tennis tournament, and two US presidential campaigns. I was also a contract photographer covering the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and an election in Haiti before heading to graduate school, where I earned a masters degree in photojournalism.

After graduate school I pursued a career in video production working in public relations at Weber Shandwick, and for the labor movement at the AFL-CIO. I have also taught photography and video production at the Corcoran school of art and design. Currently I live in Portland, Maine.
